Health Care Quote – What Health Insurance Reform Means for You
health insurance reform passed the House of Representatives by a slim margin late last night. The health insurance reform bill, which is estimated to cost $940 billion over 10 years, is projected to extend coverage to 32 million more Americans. Here are a few key points included in the bill:
Insurers can longer exclude or increase the cost of coverage for children with pre-existing conditions. This will take effect as soon as the bill becomes law. In 2014, this will be extended to all adult Americans.
Insurers can no longer drop patients or raise their premiums if they get sick. Dependent children will be allowed to remain on their parents’ health insurance plan until the age of 26.
By 2014, with the exception of low-income Americans, most Americans will be required to purchase health insurance or pay a fine. Employers with over 50 workers must provide coverage to their workers or pay $2,000 per employee.
