Lindsay Lohans 5 Worst Car Accidents
Think your car insurance premium is high? Imagine the ridiculous rate Lindsay Lohan pays after these five well-publicized smash-ups.
5. LiLo’s 2004 Fender Bender
Lindsay began her fender-bending career as a lightweight. Her first notable smash took place in 2004 in Studio City, California, where she struck another vehicle’s back bumper. Though it was only a minor accident, a personal injury suit was filed against Lindsay the following year, with the victims seeking compensation for medical expenses, lost wages and other unspecified damages.
4. 2005 Collision With an Astra Van
In 2005, Lindsay’s ‘need for speed’ contributed to a third car accident in 14 months. Lindsay slammed her black Mercedes convertible into a Chevrolet Astra van, which was making a U-turn in front of her. The driver and passenger-side airbags both deployed, and the driver of the van and a passenger in Lindsay’s car were transported by ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries.
Somewhat oddly, after the crash Lindsay and her passenger hid in a nearby antique store until police arrived. And luckily for Lindsay, alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
3. 2009 Maserati Crash
As reported on the InsWeb Blog, Lindsay Lohan’s brand new 2009 Maserati plowed into a Subaru in Glendale, California, in late March. But this time, Lindsay wasn’t behind the wheel. Her assistant dinged the $100,000 Maserati only two weeks after it was purchased. Here’s hoping Lindsay’s car insurance covers damage caused by other drivers…
Making matters worse, it came just a week after a warrant was issued for Lindsay’s arrest stemming from a previous DUI.
2. Smash-up With a Paparazzi Van
Lindsay suffered minor injuries when her Mercedes was struck by a paparazzi van in Los Angeles. Looking for photos, the van was in hot pursuit of Lindsay it slammed into her rear bumper around 2 a.m. in the morning. Police arrested the driver of the van for assault, calling the accident intentional, but had to release him later when prosecutors couldn’t find enough evidence to file criminal charges. She suffered a few cuts and bruises, but was otherwise unharmed.
1. 2007 DUI in Beverly Hills
Lindsay’s life–not to mention her career–hit rock-bottom when her drunken speedfest through Beverly Hills took a turn for the worse. With two other occupants in the vehicle, Lindsay slammed her Mercedes into a curb around 5:30 a.m., causing major damage to the vehicle. No other vehicles were involved.
When police arrived, she and the other occupants had left the scene of the accident to seek medical care at a nearby hospital. Even worse, cocaine was found in the vehicle. Lindsay was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol, cited for possession of cocaine and sentenced to three years of probation and 18 months of mandatory alcohol education programs.
Around this time, rumors appeared that 20-year-old Lindsay had signed on with Svedka Vodka for sponsorship of her 21st birthday party–not the best news following a DUI.
